Pati Walton’s love of glass started as a young child. Her grandmother owned several paperweights and they always had fascinated her. She knew that someday she would have to be part of that world.
She started working with stained glass in 1979. In 1987 she moved to Colorado, and in 1992, she began lampworking . At that time there were only a handful of glass beadmakers so she basically had to teach herself. She took to the glass like she was painting apicture and has never stopped.
She was one of the first beadmakers to incorporate intricate nature scenes into her beads. Almost all of her scene beads contain flowers, waterfalls, butterflies, and occasionally, animals. She also has been making aquarium beads since 1993 and in 1999 she produced a video called “The Aquarium Bead”.
One of her specialties is the art of making Murrini. She believes that a scene is not complete without a butterfly or wolf or tiger in the background or foreground. Pati has become one of the top bead makers in the nation. Her work has been displayed in museums and collections around the United States, Europe, and Japan. She also teaches several classes per year in the United States and abroad.
